Arrangement on the chromosome of the known pre-early genes of bacteriophages T5 and BF23.

چکیده
Genetic crosses between mutants defective in the known pre-early genes of T5 and BF23 and the detection of putative N-terminal fragments have allowed the determination of the order of genes along the initially transferred 8% section of DNA of these phages.

Early abortive lysis by phage BF23 in Escherichia coli K-12 carrying the colicin Ib factor.
Growth of phage BF23 was restricted in Escherichia coli K-12 strains carrying a colicin I factor (ColIb); most infected cells lysed early without producing progeny phages. Either addition of chloramphenicol before phage infection or ultraviolet irradiation of phage prevented early abortive lysis, an indication that certain phage functions are required for this phenomenon. Very little or no phag...
متن کاملRegulation of the temporal synthesis of proteins in bacteriophage BF23-infected cells.
Regulation of temporal synthesis of pre-early, early, and late proteins in bacteriophage BF23-infected cells has been studied by using five amber mutants defective in genes 1, 2, 10, 14, and 19. The synthesis of pre-early proteins is negatively regulated by the actions of gene 1, a pre-early gene. The switch from pre-early to early protein synthesis is mainly regulated by the second-step DNA tr...
متن کاملAbortive infection by bacteriophage BF23 due to the colicin Ib factor. I. Genetic studies of nonrestricted and amber mutants of bacteriophage BF23.
ACTERIOPHAGE BF23 was isolated by FREDERICQ, and has been used to detect bacterial strains that are resistant to colicins of group E (FREDERICQ 1949). NISIOKA and OZEKI (1968) noted that BF23 is related to T5 in its properties-both phages display virtually identical gross morphologies, both require calcium ions for multiplication, both have a minimal latent period of about 35 minutes, and both ...
متن کاملInm-4: Genetic Aspects of Male and Female Infertility
Genetic causes can be directly responsible for various clinical conditions of male and female infertility and genetic variability may affect the ability to reproduce. This review aims to summarize current research on genetic diagnosis and genetic causes of reproductive disorders. Chromosome abnormalities account for 60% of all spontaneous abortions, and the most common type, trisomy, is closely...
متن کاملP-65: Maternal Effect Genes in Mammalian Reproduction
Background: Regulation of gene expression in mammalian embryos is not completely known. Pre-implantation embryos need maternal RNA and proteins synthesized during oogenesis, to regulate development before mater-embryo transition, as the grown oocyte and the 1-cell zygote are transcriptionally silent. There are some oocyte-specific genes called maternal effect genes which may account for this ea...
